What is an ‘everything shower’ and how can you achieve it? – Self-care should be an important part of your daily life, but sometimes it can be hard to fit it in. TikTok has seen a trend called the ‘everything shower’ which helps people transform their normal showering routine into a luxurious self-care session. This is ideal after a long week of work or to pamper yourself on a Sunday before the week begins.

Here’s how you can indulge in your ‘everything shower’.

Ambience

Atmosphere is key for creating a relaxing environment and your ‘everything shower’ deserves the best. To create a spa-like atmosphere, start by lighting your favourite candles. Not only will the scent help you to relax, but the dimmed lighting will too.

Lighting is important when creating a calming ambience. Keeping the main light off and using smaller, warmer lights such as candles or lamps helps you to relax. If you need light to see for your skincare routine, for example, use illuminated mirrors to make your bathroom a practical but calm space.

Pre-shower prep

Once you have created a calming space you can begin to prepare yourself for the shower. Begin by gently removing your makeup and any impurities from pollution by using a mild cleanser. This helps to keep your skin healthy and can symbolise wiping the stresses of the day away.

You may also want to use a hair mask to rejuvenate your locks as well. Dampen your hair and massage it through thoroughly, making sure you coat every strand. Pop on a shower cap and let it sit for 15-20 to really penetrate each hair.

In the shower

Many people find that once that warm water hits your shoulders, stresses just melt away. Start with some skincare and use your favourite body scrub to gently exfoliate and revitalise your skin. This helps to buff away dead skin and keep it silky smooth. If shaving is part of your routine, do it after you exfoliate. Make sure to use a moisturising shaving cream to prevent nicks and razor rash.

Next, move on to your hair. Use a high-quality shampoo and conditioner that leaves your hair feeling soft and clean.

Post-shower

Once your shower comes to an end, you should continue to pamper yourself. Treat your skin to a body serum that is designed to lock in moisture and keep it healthy. You may want to use different moisturisers for different areas, such as your feet and hands.

For your hair, use a leave-in conditioner to keep frizz at bay. If you can, leave it to air dry to prevent any damage from heat. If you do want to blow-dry it, use as little heat as possible and a heat protectant spray.
