Protect your Skin with Natural Elements – Women Talking looks at how to protect our skin in the sun?… without all the toxic chemicals.
To protect our skin, there are certain things we must consider whilst outside, particularly in the warmer weather.
Firstly, minimise your chances of burning and secondly, limit the damage done by UVA damage which is the main cause of skin cancer and ageing to our skin cells.
According to skin specialists at Essentially Yours a burn does not actually cause skin cancer or ageing whereas UVA does. Whether the sun is shining or not, even on dull days UVA is still around. UVA is a photon that bypasses many SPFs and goes through hats, umbrellas, clothes, glass, and water. Hence why so many of us get caught out thinking we are safe with a hat and sun cream.
So, what’s safe to use? And how do you stop getting burnt?
This can be a simple process: It is suggested that you build sun exposure up over a period of time, this will allow the melanin naturally occurring in your skin to be produced to help prevent you from burning.
Many of the bases of Natural Elements facial oils are sun oils. Although not an official SPF as such, what the natural oils do (without all the toxic chemicals) neutralises the main cause of skin ageing and skin cancer. Their oils are unadulterated antioxidants so damaging rays are neutralised.
You find antioxidants in vital oils, not petroleum oils, just pure unadulterated vital oils, packed with antioxidants. Scientifically, Peach Oil, Grapeseed Oil & Avocado are considered to have the most ‘powerful antioxidants’’. The theory of directly applying an unadulterated form of antioxidants, which can be absorbed by the skin and will restore antioxidant enzymes, was raised in a paper by the Journal of Investigative dermatology in 2003. So, simply put, by applying the oils topically (e.g.: onto the skin) they form a defence line and work from within to fight against free radical damage.
Essentially Yours has known for years the immense benefits of antioxidants and it’s one of the main reasons why they specialise in making products with vital oils. Therefore, it’s no surprise that they have two products in their range (one for the face and one for the body) that will deliver these antioxidants, in a way that experts are highlighting through research, referring to ‘endogenous protection’ which means ‘from within’ when applied directly to your skin.
If you prefer, you have the option to wear Natural Element oils under your SPF, but it is worth considering that SPFs block out important vitamin D , vital to our general health and wellbeing, whereas natural oils don’t.
To keep your skin protected at all times, apply Synergistic Face Oil and Synergistic Body Oil, regularly (little and often) and stay in the sun for short bursts of time (10 to 20 minutes building to longer as your tan develops), get regular shade and reapply regularly, especially if you’ve washed off the sea salt or chlorine. Listen to your skin, head out of the sun, and cover up when your skin has had enough i.e., showing signs of going red.
As an extra precaution, it is suggested that you apply a Soothing Body Lotion at the end of the day to repair.
