Join the Windowsill Revolution – Mr. Fothergill’s on a mission to prove that anyone can grow herbs and vegetables.
The joys of gardening can sometimes seem out of reach, especially when it’s cold outside. However, while your garden may be dormant, a windowsill garden teaming with life is sure to bring a smile to your face.
Recent research, commissioned by seed producers, Mr. Fothergill’s, of over 2,000 adults has identified an emerging trend that people have the desire to get into gardening, but are being put off by perceived challenges.
66 percent want to do more growing, from plants to vegetables to keep themselves fed.
But many feel they are stopped from pursuing it more by a lack of time (39 percent), not having any outdoor space (37 percent) and not knowing enough about how to do it (35 percent).
Despite wanting to do more, one in four don’t believe they have the right equipment to successfully grow their own, while 23 percent are too frightened of bugs and spiders to get their hands dirty.
David Domoney, TV gardening guru and ambassador to Mr. Fothergill’s ‘windowsill revolution’ campaign, comments: “Growing plants on the windowsill are many people’s first experience in gardening and it really couldn’t be easier. Growing herbs and salad leaves indoors has many benefits, including feeding the family with fresh, healthy, and flavoursome produce, generating excitement at the first signs of germination, and the true happiness at watching it grow before our eyes.”
A spokesman for seed and plant producer Mr. Fothergill’s, which commissioned the research, said: “Gardening and growing your own from seed can be super rewarding and great for your wellbeing, so it’s great people are getting stuck in at such a young age”.
