Cotton & Grey Pure Beeswax Candles

Made with 100% non-drip pure beeswax, their candles burn cleanly with a gentle honey aroma aiding relaxation and mindfulness.

Founders Paul Banyard and Claire Sowden’s Twenty Minute Candles came about when they put together a small box of beeswax candles and a handwritten affirmation card for a close friend who was struggling in lockdown to help her relax and restore her well-being… and she loved them!

Six months on and they find themselves Finalists in this year’s Gift of the Year 2022.

There are lots of reasons you may choose to burn candles in your home but choosing the right type can be a minefield. When purchasing for yourself or a gift for others, do consider how your candles have been made as well as your favourite colour or fragrance.

The three most common candle wax materials are paraffin, soy, and beeswax.

Cotton & Grey for health and environmental reasons prefer to use the natural beeswax for their candles not only to give a beautiful aroma but that natural golden colouring too.

Beeswax is the oldest material used for candles, they had been found in the pyramids of ancient Egypt as well as used by the ancient Greeks and in Rome and China. It is an all-natural, non-toxic substance secreted by bees after they visit flowers and consume honey. The bees produce beeswax, which is used to make honeycombs, and when they are harvested, make great candles.

Beeswax creates a strong connection to the earth, harkening to the beauty and productivity of nature. No bees are harmed in the harvesting of beeswax, making it a cruelty-free, vegan/vegetarian-friendly option.

Beeswax also has the lowest toxicity for candle materials, releasing no toxic by-products or heavy soot into the air.

Instead of adding pollutants, beeswax candles neutralise them. Beeswax candles release negative ions when burned, eliminating dust, mould, and unpleasant odours. This is particularly helpful for those with allergies, asthma, and hay fever.

On its own, beeswax has a lot of natural relaxation properties. Its mildly sweet honey scent complements any environment. It is a dripless material by nature, meaning there will be no wastage or mess, making it easier and safer to burn.

The light it produces is also the purest and brightest, the closest to natural sunlight for a candle, making it a great light source for minimal eye strain.

It takes thousands of flower visits to create a kilo of beeswax and whilst there is a premium price to the product, it ultimately has more benefits for the discerning customer.

That is why all Cotton & Grey candles are handmade with only 100% pure beeswax to ensure the highest quality possible. Using old world manufacturing dipping techniques, Cotton & Grey brings candles in traditional taper shapes. Everything is then finished by hand to make sure each candle is perfect for you.

Fresh beeswax is white in colour but the natural impurities like pollen give it a light yellow or dark brown colour.

The Twenty Minute Candle Box contains ten pure beeswax candles, a ceramic holder as well as affirmation cards for relaxation and well-being.
