Celebrities that Called it Quits on Marijuana – Three celebrities that called it quits on marijuana…and never looked back.
It’s a very interesting time for marijuana at the moment. On the one hand, states right across the USA and countries all around the world are legalising the substance both for medical and recreational purposes, and on the other, we know all about the risks, the addiction, and the health problems it can cause.
It’s a curious situation and is one that is talked about in the media frequently, both positively and negatively. Addiction is one of the main issues with the drug, just as it is with the likes of alcohol and gambling – but they are still legal.
Of course, in the world of celebrities, there are many that are campaigning for legalisation. But there is also a number that have suffered from addiction and is now in recovery. They’ve spoken about their experience of weed withdrawal and time in rehab openly, as well as the rehab process and how they are now feeling better about it.
We look back on a selection of celebrities’ experiences with the substance…
Robert Downey Jr.
Robert Downey Jr. has come a long way over the last few decades. Once best known for his antics off-set, he’d often drift into periods of self-destruction, battling with addiction to several substances, including marijuana. However, that period is long gone and if you need an example of what getting clean can do, you only need to look at one of Hollywood’s biggest and most successful stars.
Macca recently headlined Glastonbury at 80 years old and is looking in tremendous shape for his age. But it was only 10 years ago that he gave up cannabis. Having smoked the substance since 1964 after being introduced to it by Bob Dylan, he’s had several run-ins with the law over it, even being kicked out of Japan for possession.
After becoming a father again, he decided it was time he should stop with marijuana, and he’s been clean ever since.
Brad Pitt is enjoying a real resurgence at present and he’s still looking as good as he’s ever done. In his early years, he was well known for his habit of smoking weed and has even shared spliffs with Hollywood’s elite.
However, he has spoken out about his habit, stating, “I was doing the same thing every night and numbing myself to sleep—the same routine: Couldn’t wait to get home and hide out.”
It was at that point he decided to quit, having seen signs of abject poverty, encouraging him to get clean and begin to focus on bigger projects.
