Equipment Worth the Investment!

Equipment Worth the Investment!

Equipment Worth the Investment! – Now, I must admit that over the years, I’ve sometimes been a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to cooking equipment.  Just recently I’ve been trying some top-quality kitchen hardware, and boy, I’ve discovered that it really is worth spending a little bit more to get a top-quality product.

When it comes to pans, I’ve had dozens!  A Michelin-starred chef once told me that in his restaurant kitchens they always used cheap non-stick frying pans and threw them away after a year or so. In his opinion, there weren’t any good, non-stick pans that kept their non-stick surface.  Well, I now can beg to differ, as I’ve discovered the ‘Rolls Royce’ of non-stick, courtesy of another Michelin-starred chef – Gordon Ramsay, no less!  A North American company called HexClad developed its own, patented, hybrid cookware and being resident in California, Ramsay heard about the pans and bought some for his home kitchen. To cut a long-ish story short, he’s now working in partnership with HexClad and is an investor.  He’s also using their pans in his London restaurant and his cooking academy in Woking.

Equipment Worth the Investment!

HexClad’s distinctive laser-etched hexagon pattern is durable and high-performing due to the series of peaks and valleys it creates. The peaks are stainless steel, to give a golden-brown sear and protect the pan against peeling and flaking. In the valleys is the non-stick surface, which provides easy cleaning, and the ability to cook with less butter, grease, or oil. And it’s scratch-resistant, metal utensil safe, oven safe, dishwasher safe and PFOA-free – plus compatible with all induction, gas, ceramic, and electric hobs. What more could you want, or need?

I’ve used these pans and I have to say that they take non-stick cooking to a different level – stratosphere even!  As with most top-quality products, sadly they’re not cheap (prices from £79), but Danny Winer, the co-founder and CEO of Hexclad says that these pans are designed to last a lifetime.
