39 Steps Coffee

39 Steps Coffee

39 Steps Coffee was started in early 2018 in Soho, London with the aim of providing the finest speciality coffee, scrumptious food, and only the best service, to the busy bees in Central London.

They have since branched out to Knightsbridge, London, opposite the famous Harrods store, and continue to grow and build relationships with their regular customers, whilst growing their offerings to customers in-store as well as online.

Being a huge coffee lover, the Women Talking team were keen to try their coffee beans and the compostable capsules.

39 Steps Coffee

Their well-loved house blend is available in compostable, Nespresso® compatible pods, which ultimately was an instant success as they were compatible with our coffee machine in the office. Their house blend, also known as the Mina Blend, is comprised of 50% Juan Mosquera, Colombia – Washed / 50% Rio Brilhante, Brazil – Natural and is bursting with flavour and has an excellent taste.

Tasting notes – Peach, Biscuit, Cacao.

You can purchase the pods in a quantity of 10 to 100, and if you love them as much as we do, you can even get a subscription!

Once you’ve done with your coffee pod and all the goodness has been extracted, the capsules can be thrown away the same way your food waste is, which is better for the environment and easier for you!

The producer of this coffee, Inacio Carlos Urban, first arrived in Minas Gerais in 1976 with the dream of producing great coffee via sustainable and innovative practices.

After getting his hands on his own farm in Cerrado Mineiro in 1984, Rio Brilhante has grown to become one of the biggest farms in the region, as well as one of the largest in the country, spanning a massive 2000 hectares! Not only did he keep the environment in mind, but he was also intent on striving for excellence within the coffee industry. Since Inacio planted those first trees over 30 years ago, he has used rigorous quality control methods to keep up this standard and quality.

Next up for trial was the Columbia Tres Pioneros expresso/filter decaf whole beans.

Tasting notes – Chocolate, lime, velvety.

Great coffees can be found in several areas throughout Colombia, and Huila has become a major contender among them. This Decaf Pioneers Blend is an exemplary coffee from their producing partners in southern Huila.

This coffee utilises a washed process prior to decaffeination, which is solvent base, using ethyl-acetate. It is derived from a mix of acetic acid (vinegar) and a natural extract distilled from sugar cane, blackberries, beets or sometimes grapes.

A direct-solvent process is used meaning that the beans are steamed to open their pores and are then rinsed in ethyl acetate repeatedly to remove the caffeine.

Next, the beans are dried but not completely, 10-12% humidity remains, and then the open bean is sealed with natural wax that in no way affects the flavour, fragrance, or aroma of the coffee.

50:50 Caffeine/Decaf Blend.

Tasting notes – Dark Chocolate. Biscuit, Cherry.

Features 50% Fazenda Vila Boa: an amazing natural processed Brazilian coffee from Sul de Minas, and their Colombian Tres Pioneros Decaf Joined together in perfect harmony, creating a balanced blend, rich in flavour and with a smooth body.

Fazenda Vila Boa encompasses over 1,000 hectares and produces both coffee and cattle for dairy production. To help tackle the increasing threats from climate change, Fazenda Vila Boa has recently taken steps to become certified as carbon neutral. This means that the estate is not only reducing their carbon footprint but can also offset the carbon that they do produce, thanks to their coffee terroirs and forests.

The majority of 39 Step Coffee is bought directly from origin, building relationships with farmers to ensure full traceability of each of their coffees and generating better prices for the people that deserve it most.

Their sourcing process and quality control procedures are thorough – cupping their coffees hundreds of times over to monitor how the coffee fares once travelled and how it continues to fare as they continue to roast.

This process of repetition – analysing a coffee profile, dissecting, and improving it to be the best possible product enables 39 Steps Coffee to provide you with a cup of coffee of the highest quality.

39 Steps Coffee gets a big ‘thumbs up’ from us, so whether you are a filter, expresso, Cappuccino, or latte fan, get creative and start brewing your favourite ‘cup of joe’.
