Adventure Awaits: Explore Japan’s Vibrant Landscapes on Your Next Trip.

Japan is a country with an entirely unique culture and history. But what’s shaped these things over the centuries has partly been the physical shape of the country. Peppered with soaring mountains and volcanoes, and surrounded by clear blue sea, these islands have an enormous amount to offer when it comes to natural beauty. Small wonder that they’re so popular among tourists looking for an outdoor adventure.

For those planning their next Japan holidays, the country’s vibrant landscapes offer a plethora of adventure opportunities waiting to be uncovered. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Hiking the Japanese Alps: A Trekker’s Paradise

The Japanese Alps are actually three distinct ranges running down the middle of Honshu: the Hida, Kiso and Akaishi Mountains. There are a number of amazing trails to explore, making this part of the country a paradise for hikers. Among the more popular routes are to be found in the Kamikōchi Valley, and on the side of Mount Yarigatake. Mount Fuji, the country’s highest peak, can be a challenge for seasoned hikers. You’ll want the right hiking shoes, warm clothing, and plenty of supplies for the trip.

The weather tends to be most favourable during late summer. It’s best to avoid winter, unless you relish a challenge. Pay attention to weather warnings, and listen to local advice.

Cycling Adventures: From Shimanami Kaido to Countryside Trails

Japan is also a great place to go on a long cycling adventure. For the most part, you’ll be traveling through mountains and along coastlines. In some cases, you can move directly from one island to the next, without leaving the saddle. The Shimanami Kaido route bridges the Honshu and Shikoku islands and can span anywhere from 70 to 250 kilometers. You can cover the distance in a day, but if you want to make time for distractions like the Senkoji Temple and the Kosanji Temple Complex, you might want to set aside more time.

Water Sports and Coastal Exploration: Japan’s Aquatic Adventures

Since you’re surrounded on all sides by water, it’s a good idea to make the most of it. You might travel to Lake Shikotsu, in the Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Hokkaido. Or, if you prefer surfing, a visit to Okinawa might be in order. These activities are best enjoyed during summer.

Seasonal Adventures: Embracing Japan’s Natural Beauty Year-Round

There are a number of special events and activities that are available only at certain times of the year. For example, the cherry blossom season takes place in Spring, and you’ll find special tours built around it in various parts of Tokyo, and elsewhere.
