A Stroll Through Time: My Visit to Bath, Somerset

A Stroll Through Time: My Visit to Bath, Somerset – Stepping into Bath feels like slipping into a Jane Austen novel — or, more recently, onto the set of Bridgerton. This picturesque city in Somerset has long been celebrated for its honey-hued Georgian architecture, Roman heritage, and spa culture. But experiencing it in person is another level entirely.

A Stroll Through Time: My Visit to Bath, Somerset

I recently spent a long weekend in Bath and left feeling both rested and utterly inspired. From cinematic scenery to ancient wonders, Bath is a city that blends history, culture, and modern indulgence in the most beautiful way.

A Touch of Bridgerton Glamour

Thanks to Netflix’s Bridgerton, Bath has experienced a renewed spotlight. Many of the show’s iconic scenes were filmed here and walking the same cobbled streets as the cast added an unexpected thrill to my trip.

The Royal Crescent is a must-visit — a sweeping arc of thirty terraced houses that perfectly captures 18th-century grandeur. You might recognise it as the exterior of the Featherington household. Just a short walk away is the Assembly Rooms, which doubled as the opulent ballrooms in the series. You can practically hear the rustle of empire-line gowns and string quartets echoing through the halls.

For fans of the series (and fans of fashion!), I highly recommend the Bridgerton-inspired walking tours. They take you behind the scenes and share fascinating insights into the show’s filming process, as well as the historical backdrop that makes it all so compelling.

Must-See Sights and Hidden Corners

A Stroll Through Time: My Visit to Bath, Somerset

While Bridgerton might draw you in, Bath’s true magic lies in its layers of history and charm. No visit would be complete without exploring:

  • The Roman Baths – One of the most fascinating heritage sites in the UK. The complex is a beautifully preserved relic of Roman Britain, complete with steaming pools, sacred springs, and ancient architecture. The fact that people have been bathing in these waters for nearly 2,000 years is awe-inspiring.
  • Bath Abbey – Just next door, this soaring Gothic church is a masterpiece of stained glass and stone. I lit a candle and sat quietly for a moment — it felt grounding in such a historic setting.
  • Pulteney Bridge – With its charming boutiques and views over the River Avon, this bridge is one of the prettiest in the world. It’s also a great spot for a coffee and some peaceful people-watching.
  • The Holburne Museum – Art lovers take note: this elegant museum houses fine and decorative arts and also appeared in Bridgerton as Lady Danbury’s home.
  • Thermae Bath Spa – This was a real highlight for me. Bath is the only place in the UK where you can bathe in naturally warm, mineral-rich waters — just like the Romans did. The rooftop pool offers dreamy views across the city, especially at sunset. I left feeling deeply relaxed and slightly smug.

A City That Heals

Bath has always been a city of wellness. The Celts and Romans believed in the healing powers of its natural hot springs, and that legacy continues today. The water is naturally infused with over 40 minerals, including calcium and magnesium — wonderful for soothing tired muscles, boosting circulation, and easing stress.

For me, the spa experience was more than a luxury; it felt like a reset. There’s something poetic about immersing yourself in waters that have been flowing for thousands of years. In a world that moves too fast, Bath invites you to pause.

Final Thoughts

My visit to Bath was everything I hoped for — a blend of beauty, history, and a little bit of Bridgerton-style escapism. Whether you’re a fan of period dramas, Roman history, or simply looking for a relaxing weekend getaway, Bath offers something truly special.

Pack comfortable shoes, a sense of curiosity, and maybe a feathered fan if you’re feeling dramatic — Bath will romance you from the moment you arrive.
