The Conjuring 2 (15)
Fans of the original Conjuring movie will welcome this competent follow-up that first and foremost demonstrates how a sequel should be made.
Based on one of the UK’s most famous hauntings, the Enfield Poltergeist, we are reunited with real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who are called to suburban London to help a family terrorised by the ghost of an old man known as Bill Wilkins.
Director James Wan delivers one of his best pieces of work yet and gets the very best from his two leads Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. This is no ordinary horror film and whilst the genre is familiar to Wan, it would have been easy to treat this sequel as a cash-cow.
It’s creepy, atmospheric but never isolates the audience with a plot that is believable – even when you consider the subject matter – and finds time to highlight the romantic connection between our two leads.
One of the best movies of its kind released over the last few years and every bit as good as horror fans could hope for, The Conjuring 2 should be top of your viewing list this week. Just make sure you don't go alone because the scares keep coming and even at over 2 hours long, there's not a moment you won't be glued to the big screen.
