Sabichi Rugs

Poppy Watt looks at Sabichi rugs. With 34 designs available there is something for everyone! Each rug is handmade by craftsmen whose skills have been passed down through many generations. With a luxuriously thick pile, their hand-tufted rugs will last for years.

It won’t break the bank but your rug can tie the room’s entire different element together, define its character or separate areas, like seating and dining space.

With so many great styles and designs on the market you can choose a floor covering in a style to suit your personal taste and décor. You can add a splash of colour and warmth or coolness and calmness, while helping to layer a room's design.

If you have wooden floors rugs are very good for insulation and deaden excessive noise and if you have children, a rug can be an easy to clean area for them to play on.

Rugs are also very portable, rearrange your room and simply pick up and reposition your rug to create a new aspect. If you are redecorating just roll it up.

When it comes to choosing a rug look at what it is made from.   Some cheaper ones are made from synthetic fibres like nylon or rayon; others are made from natural materials like bamboo, cotton and wool.

Wool rugs have a luxuriously soft pile, which resists crushing from furniture and heavy foot traffic. Because of the natural spring-like texture of wool fibres, wool rugs bounce back even after washing, retaining their beauty and form. They provide comfort and durability, while resisting stains and dirt because of a natural wax-like coating on the fibres. The waxy substance repels liquid and dirt, keeping it on the surface where it's easy to clean with warm water and a sponge.

Wool rugs are naturally fire resistant and, unlike synthetic fibres, wool will not melt. It also absorbs moisture from the air, reducing humidity and alleviating some asthma and emphysema symptoms. It is hypoallergenic and antibacterial.

Wool is also a biodegradable and renewable resource with environmental benefits.

I have found some outstanding images from Sabichi Introducing their beautiful new 100% Deep Pile Wool rug collection for 2012. Showing you exactly what you can do with a rug to complement your home.

All rugs are available in 120cm x 180cm and retail from £120
