Tarts And Cookware!

Apple & Marzipan Tart

Apple & Marzipan Tart

This French tart is perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Serves 6-8

Using ready-made marzipan and good puff pastry means this can be made in no time. Once you've added the apples you can freeze the tart, as they won’t go brown. If you do, just make sure the oven is very hot so that the base cooks through

INGREDIENTS

3 dessert apples
75g butter, plus extra for greasing
Flour, for dusting
230g ready-made puff pastry
1 tbsp icing sugar
100g white marzipan
75g caster sugar
100ml double cream

To serve

Vanilla ice cream

Method

Core and thinly slice the apples.
Preheat the oven to
200°C/400°F/Gas mark 6. Lightly grease the baking sheet.
Lightly flour the work surface and roll out the puff pastry to make a large rectangle. Place the pastry on the baking sheet and prick it all over with a fork. Dust it with icing sugar.
Slice the marzipan thinly and spread it over the pastry base.
Cover it with the apple slices and bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown and crisp around the edges.
Meanwhile make the sauce. In a pan, melt the caster sugar, cream and butter together and simmer for 2-3 minutes, until golden.
Serve the tart with the sauce and vanilla ice cream.

James Martin and Stellar Give Us a Baker’s Dozen

If you would like to bake like James Martin then you’ll be pleased to know that the nation’s favourite TV chef has once more teamed up with Stellar Cookware, to release 13 bakeware essentials that every serious home cook should have - the Baker's Dozen.

Designed and distributed by Stellar and manufactured to Stellar’s specification, I knew instantly that the quality was going to be good.

The tins have all been made from 1mm heavy grade carbon steel, allowing an even heat distribution when cooking.

Each piece of bake ware has rigid rolled edges for extra strength and durability and means no nasty sharp edges and corners when handling without cooking gloves.

An added bonus is a double layer of non-stick on all surfaces inside and out – this carries a five-year non-stick guarantee. Stellar are so confident of the quality of their tins the range also has a Stellar Lifetime Guarantee.

I found the tins easy to clean by hand in soapy water as well as being dishwasher safe.

Nine of the tins are sleeved with a James Martin favourite recipe, just in case you bakers need some inspiration in the kitchen - which I thought was a welcome, personal touch from James.

Efficient, stylish and competitively priced, James Martin’s Baker's Dozen adds to the already extensive range of kitchenware, which includes cookware, kitchen knives, textiles and cutlery
