Sharing a good old board game with the family certainly constitutes quality time in my book and having read a book or two may help with the new Catchphrase game.
Based on the ITV game show, the new game has been updated with additional brainteaser puzzles, updated trivia and brought just as much excitement as the TV show itself.
The object is quite literally to say what you see - if you see it, say it!
The game is fun, exciting and ideal for mixed ages. There was subject matter that could easily relate to each generation, making it an ideal family game, which lets youngsters get involved. After all grandma may not be up to speed with Peppa Pig, a blackberry or Angry Birds!
Game play is straightforward and follows the format of the show. Even down to the appearance of Mr Chips. The idea is to study the pictures carefully and guess the famous phrases; this is how to get one over on the opposition. Each player enjoys the title of host for one round of; Individual, Rapid-Fire and Super Catch Phrase puzzles.
The ultimate aim is to win the most game money and in each round there are variable amounts on offer. One minute you think you are on top, with your big pile of notes in front of you, the next one of the kids answers a highly valued question and takes the lead.
Each player keeps his or her accumulated winnings, as play passes from host to host – and the person with the most money at the end is declared the winner.
The set contains 96 double-sided Regular Catch Phrase Cards, 15 large, square double- sided Bonus Catch Phrase Cards, 48 single-sided Super Catch Phrase Cards and board, a quirky Mr Chips Card Holder and a clever Bonus Catch Phrase Picture Frame which plays an integral part in recreating all of the lively fun of the TV game and I felt true to the game show format. The red filter played an intriguing part of the game – but you will have to play it yourself to find out why?!
All in all, Catchphrase gets a big thumbs up from Poppy - recommended for 2 to 4 players ages 8 to adult.
