Often imitated but never equaled, The Exorcist is one of the greatest thrillers ever made.
Just in time for Christmas, Warner Brothers Home Entertainment has released The Exorcist: The Complete Anthology, the entire collection.
A true cinema landmark, the theological thriller is one of the top ten box-office performers of all time. The Exorcist took 10 Academy Award® nominations, including Best Picture, and won two Oscars®, for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as winning for Best Sound. Subsequently, the film went on to become a multi-million pound franchise.
In 1977 John Boorman (Deliverance) directed Exorcist II: The Heretic starring Linda Blair and Richard Burton; in 1990, the creator of the series, William Peter Blatty, wrote and directed Exorcist III starring George C Scott. In 2004 Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) directed The Exorcist prequel, Exorcist: The Beginning. The anthology also includes Paul Schrader’s film Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist that the production company originally shelved in favour of Harlin’s film. Blatty himself regards Schrader’s film as ‘a handsome, classy, elegant piece of work’.
Fans of the classic movies should seek out this reissue and anyone who has yet to see this cinematic masterpiece is in for a scary treat!
