The Novel Cure

The Novel Cure

The Novel Cure is an A-Z literary remedies that offers a cure in the form of a novel for all kinds of ailments of the mind and body – whether you have stomach flu, a broken heart or just feel a bit flat, authors Ella Berthoud and Susan Elderkin can recommend a novel (or a combination of novels) that will help ease your pain.

Written with authority, passion and wit, it features a wide range of books, from the classic to the contemporary, from the much loved and well known to the undiscovered gem. The Novel Cure is a new approach to fuelling your reading list and a chance to see the books on your shelves with fresh eyes. A celebration of books and reading, there is also advice on how to cull your library, the benefits of reading aloud, how and why you should keep reading a log, the joys of audio books and much more.

Deeply passionate, authoritative and obsessive, The Novel Cure is wonderfully playful and accessible for fans of books that celebrate the joys of reading.

The Novel Cure is out now from Canongate Books priced £17.99.

Authors Ella Berthoud and Susan Elderkin met at Cambridge University, where they both were studying English literature. Ella went onto study fine art and become a painter and art teacher. Susan became a novelist and was listed by Granta as one of the 20 Best Young British Novelists in 2003. She is also a travel writer, journalist and reviewer.
