Over the past few months, I have been indulging myself in the “Clean Beauty” world, therefore, Pit Putty 100% natural vegan deodorant was a must to try.
The words natural and eco-friendly are too broadly used when influencing consumers. A lot of companies like to label their products stating the ingredients they use are natural, organic and clean. But what does that really mean?
Clean Beauty is defined by products that are mindfully created and produced without any proven or suspected toxic ingredients. Clean Beauty products include ingredients ethically sourced and are made with the health of our bodies and the environment in mind.
Pit Putty is a British sustainable deodorant brand, which began in early 2014. Founders Luke and Laura received news about a work college being diagnosed with skin cancer. After the doctor’s professional advice to stop using unnatural skincare products that contain chemicals such an SLS, they started their journey of switching their cosmetic brands to natural alternatives. As they both gained more knowledge from trialling and testing cosmetic brands as well as perfecting their own homemade recipes, they decided that if they could not buy one, they would have to make one. Their creation had to be 100% natural, vegan (bees-wax free), gentle on the skin, completely eco-friendly and most importantly it had to work!
Since its release, Pit Putty has gained a reputation for being the natural deodorant that actually works and here’s how…
There are certain types of sweat glands that live in the underarms, these are called apocrine sweat glands. When you are hot or exercise the apocrine sweat glands release odourless sweat to cool you down. However, also living on your underarms are bacteria which actually eat the sweat and create an acid by-product; body odour!
Pit Putty is a mild alkaline and actually reacts with the acidic by-product from the bacteria and neutralises it, preventing any odour from occurring. In other words, Pit Putty doesn’t just mask smells, it prevents them. Pit Putty enables your body to sweat just like it should do, but the sweat will actually be odourless.
Pit Putty is available in 4 different scents: Lemongrass Tea Tree, Rose Geranium, Lavender Lemon and Cinnamon Cedarwood. They are well-packaged in either full size (65g) RRP £9.95 or convenient mini size (15g) RRP £2.50 tins.
The product itself has a balm-like consistency that can be scooped out of the tin and spread smoothly over the armpits, absorbing quickly without leaving any marks on clothing throughout the day. The tins have simple packaging with a bright burst of colour matching the scents, which I think looks great! The tins also have an added advantage of being able to recycle and reused when empty.
Pit Putty has been formulated with only natural and organic ingredients that are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Additionally, it is aluminium oxide free. The majority of antiperspirants are aluminium based chemical agents which work by literally blocking your sweat glands with metallic salts preventing sweat from reaching the skin surface. Studies have suggested that exposure to aluminium could have potentially negative health consequences.
