How to Achieve your Festive Hair – Rainbow Room International, and Artistic Director of the group, Suzie McGill, has provided Women Talking with some fantastic comments on the top hairstyles for the festive season and how to create these at home for any Christmas parties.
Bouncy curls – Big, volumised and bouncy curls are always on trend at Christmas time and are such a glamorous look for Christmas parties. The best way to create this look is by using large, barrelled curling tongs for bigger curls with lots of movement before brushing these out for added volume and softness. However, this look can also be created via a bouncy blow-dry with a round brush or for more defined curls, heated rollers can be used. Before creating your curls always prep the hair with some hairspray for added hold and to give your hair shine. Once you have completed creating the curls and have brushed them out, apply hair oil or serum and scrunch this into your curls to provide even further volume and a mirror-like shine to your hair perfect for the festive season!
Slicked back – sleek, slicked back looks have been on trend for some time now and they remain on-trend for the festivities. The great thing about this look is that it’s super easy and quick to create and it looks great on all hair types and hair lengths. The style is particularly great for those with shorter hair, as when worn slicked to the side this style will provide you with a funky and edgy look, but also looks great on those with longer hair, where the hair can be slicked off the face and the rest of the hair can be draped down the back for a super stylish finish. When creating this style using a hairdryer with a nozzle is particularly useful to help change the direction of your hair before finishing by using a hair gel to set your hair into place and provide it with hold.
Braids – updo’s are another popular choice for Christmas time and braids are an incredibly pretty style. The great thing about braids is there are so many styles to choose from, from regular braids to Dutch braids, French braids, intricate and parting braids and even bubble braids that have taken 2021 by storm! For a more polished braid, apply a moisturising cream before creating your braids, such as Schwarzkopf OSiS+ Tame Wild Smooth Anti-Frizz Cream, which will keep your braid free from flyaways and frizz and give it smoothness, softness, and shine. Alternatively, for a more relaxed braid, gently pull sections of your braid to give it a more volumised appearance and leave out some pieces of hair around your face to frame your face and to give the hairstyle an effortless finish.
Wet look waves – Wet look waves have been on trend for some time now and they’re most definitely here to stay. With this look, it’s all about the products to give your hair a wet appearance and to enhance the natural curls/waves within your hair. Wash your hair and when damp, spritz in some leave-in conditioner to give your hair hydration whilst also leaving it looking and feeling smooth, shiny and free from frizz. Then, use a hairdryer with a nozzle to provide more targeted drying to your hair and to reduce frizz. To ensure your hair stays in place all night long, use a hard gel and apply this from the roots to the mid-lengths of your hair and finish by using a curl crème and texturising spray, such as a salt spray, in the mid-lengths and ends to enhance your curls/waves and create body without any frizz.
