Celebrating ‘Afternoon Tea Week’……with favourites of the ‘People’s Gardener’
‘Afternoon Tea Week’ falls on the 7th to the 13th of August this year and Barnsdale Gardens in the East Midlands is celebrating with panache by offering an insight into what Geoff Hamilton, the ‘People’s Gardener’, used to like for his afternoon treats!
Geoff Hamilton was, of course, the founder of Barnsdale Gardens and earned the reputation of being the ‘People’s Gardener’ when he was the much-loved presenter of BBC Gardeners’ World. This spirit lives on today at Barnsdale Gardens, which is now run by Geoff’s son Nick Hamilton
The Barnsdale team have added the special ‘Geoff Hamilton Afternoon Tea’ to their menu at their Helenium Tea Room for a limited time only, as part of their 40th Anniversary celebrations. Available up until the 30th of September 2023, it costs £50.95 for two, is served between 3 pm and 4 pm and must be pre-booked at least 48 hours in advance.
The tea includes plenty of Geoff’s favourites such as:
– A selection of freshly made dainty sandwiches: ham & mustard; egg mayonnaise & cress; cheese, pickle, and lettuce; beef & horseradish.
(Vegetarian option: cucumber & cream cheese; cheese, pickle and lettuce; Brie & cranberry; roasted vegetables & hummus)
– Savouries: pork pie; sausage roll; cheese straws.
(Vegetarian Savouries: vegetarian sausage roll; cheese straws and quiche)
– Treats: Mini sponge cake, lemon posset & shortbread, flowerpot choc-chip muffins; cheese scone.
– Served with Pimm’s or gin & tonic and a hot drink of your choice.

– Afternoon Tea Week Special, 7th-13th August: Claim a free glass of wine, or Pimms, or gin & tonic with any afternoon tea booked for this week.
– The Barnsdale Afternoon Tea, offers a selection of freshly made dainty sandwiches. Pork pie, Two homemade scones with clotted cream and jam, Eton mess and Cake.
All are served on bone china with a pot of tea or coffee.
– Vegetarian option available.
