4 Fun Winter Activities You Can Do in The Mountains

4 Fun Winter Activities You Can Do in The Mountains – If you prefer winter holidays over summer holidays, there is a wide range of activities to choose from guaranteed to keep you busy on the slopes. It may seem like a natural choice to go skiing but with so many additional options available to you, you will be spoiled for choice. If you are wondering which fun winter activities you should try this upcoming winter season, continue reading to expand your horizons.

Dogsledding

If you are looking for a winter activity that is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, dogsledding combines the thrill of the slopes with the added bonus of interacting with a pack of friendly, hard-working dogs. It is, however, worth noting that if the conditions are particularly wintery or a considerable amount of snow has fallen overnight, you may be in for a bumpy ride with more effort required to pull you and the risk of falling off is always a possibility. It may, on the other hand, be a somewhat peaceful ride as you relax under a warm blanket and enjoy the sights and sounds of the slopes.

Snowshoeing

It may sound like a made-up term, but snowshoeing is an age-old sport that has exploded in popularity in recent years as skiing takes a well-deserved back seat. It is, put simply, the process of hiking through deep snow on an uphill incline or downhill incline through a series of snowy landscapes. If you are anticipating an upcoming snowshoeing adventure, it may be worth familiarising yourself with the local snow forecast for that day nearer the time to give you a rough idea of how easy, or difficult, it is likely to be for you and your party. If you have children in tow, on the other hand, snowshoeing can be a great way to traverse the slopes on foot at a pace that suits everyone involved.

Ice climbing

If you are experienced on the slopes or are just looking for your next adventure, ice climbing is a great way to test your abilities and treat yourself to some awe-inspiring mountaintop views at the same time. It, as its name suggests, requires you to ascend inclined ice formations, such as frozen waterfalls, icefalls, rock slabs, and cliffs, whilst attached to a rope. It is, however, not for the faint-hearted and should not be attempted unless you have done so before or are accompanied by an experienced guide or ice climber. If you are the type of person that thrives on pushing yourself, the feeling of pride when you reach the top is unmatched.

Snowkiting

Snowkiting is, essentially, the process of gliding and jumping on snow or ice whilst being powered by a kite or, kiteboarding on ice as opposed to water. If you are an experienced skier, you will, more than likely, already possess the skills and fitness levels required to control your kite on the ice without getting into difficulty. If you are new to the weird and wonderful world of snowkiting, however, it is relatively simple and straightforward to learn and there are various instructors out there willing to teach you how.

If you are on the hunt for fun winter activities you can do in the mountains, help is at hand. It may be second nature to want to pull on a pair of skis, but there are several other options available to you including dogsledding, snowshoeing, ice climbing, and snowkiting. In doing so, you can expand your horizons and experience the magic of the mountains for yourself as you make your way up, and down, the slopes.
