Me You & The Kids Too

Me, You & The Kids Too Author Renee Elliott

Me, you & the kids too is a very useful, time saving cookbook aimed at recipes to suit the whole family, including babies and toddlers. It proves the point that making healthy, delicious food doesn’t have to take forever.

Renee Elliott, is the founder of the Planet Organic supermarkets in the UK. She has always been interested in nutrition and healthy eating and says, “If you want your kids to be strong, healthy and live well, feeding them a nutritious diet is the best possible start.

“Without doubt, what your baby eats at an early age affects their health today and in the future. If your children start off eating a narrow range of foods, they are likely to continue doing so throughout their life and may not get a complete spectrum of nutrients. This can impact on their health in the formative years and later in life”.

After the birth of her first child, having worked in nutrition, Renee decided baby foods from cans or jars was not an acceptable option for her. Developing her own healthy recipes for her baby, however, left very little time for preparing a meal for her and her husband. That prompted her to look for meals that she could make for herself and adapt for children.

“Cooking for the family can be a huge challenge that leaves you feeling you’re always making compromises. Eating a wide range of foods creates a strong foundation of health and increases your chance of getting the necessary nutrients. It creates adventurous eating in your children’s diet as they grow. If they ever get finicky about what they eat they will still have a wide range of foods to choose from.”

Me, you & the kids too offer delicious recipe ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert that your family will adore.

The book contains 85 recipes with clear instructions and further advice on adapting recipes into infant and toddler-friendly versions from the adult main dish to easily prepare them at the same time.

Many of the recipes are new and some have interesting combinations. Each recipe has enough food for two adults, one child and one baby and there is information on prep time, cooking time, and storage.

I love the message to serve a rainbow of colours on your plate every day and sensible advice like if you can’t buy completely organic buy the things you use the most like milk, bread and tomatoes.

Admittedly organic meat can be pretty costly, but if you want meat that does not carry antibiotic residue, if you want to eat food that is free from genetically modified ingredients and if you don't want to examine food labels to ensure the food does not contain any nasty additives, choose organic. To save on costs Renee’s suggestion is to cut down on the meat portion and compensate with other healthy ingredients.

Renee’s most basic advice about healthy eating is to avoid highly processed foods, sweets, fried foods, junk food, fizzy drinks, white flour, sugar, salt and cheap fats.

And to help your family’s wellbeing focus too on Mother Nature’s healthy foods like seeds, nuts, beans, vegetables, fruits, grains, fish and meat.

Me you & the kids too is available from Duncan Baird Publishers at £14.99 RRP.
