As the days get lighter and the weather much warmer, many people's thoughts are drawn towards relocation. Spring is traditionally a "wake-up" month for the housing market as consumers decide to test the waters. However, it need not be all about moving on. There are many simple fixes that can dramatically change your living environment with a minimum of cost.

Seven Steps to Making Space

1 It might sound like an obvious point to start with but tidying up the house and removing clutter automatically increases the size of your living area. We have a tendency to hoard rather than sell and since car boot sales are now more popular than ever, you could even make a few pounds in the process.

2 A spring clean can also lead many down the road of a re-paint job and now is a good time to replace some of those dark colours in favour of something more inspiring and bright. Light colours and mirrors can dramatically increase the size of a room without breaking the bank!

3 Make use of your loft space! Putting down boards and even just plasterboarding the side panels will give you a conveninet storage area.

4 Curtains can shrink the size of a room. If you are pushed for space in that third bedroom or "cosy" dining room why not consider blinds as an alternative.

5 Boilder cupboards and meter rooms are often just used to store clutter but they can be easily transformed into book cases or walk in shoe cupboards.

6 Switching from carpets to wood/laminate flooring is a great way to bring a fresh, spacious feel to your home and tend to be much more durable and long lasting, as well as much easier to clean.

7 If you do explore the option of wood flooring then adding under floor heating can allow you to remove unsightly radiators, which very often take up wall space.
