Enough is Enough by Jo Cameron

Whilst working through the day I have the radio on in the background. Whilst I work my ears prick up at certain messages. I don’t indulge in the negative messages but Radio 2 offers some balance in the mania of the world. It offers contemplations and reflections that have spurred me to write today.

As you may know I don’t read the newspapers or watch TV but I have picked up what’s going on with Britney Spears. The debate started on the radio once again. Of course there are many dimensions to the current media circus surrounding her but I have one point to make. She is a human being and who ever she is she doesn’t deserve her very public flogging.

Billions around the world read about her crumbling spirit, her trauma and her distress. They hunger for her downfall as they hunt her like a pack of wolves. They are baying for her blood and won’t stop until they get it. How can they take so much pleasure in destroying a fellow human? She is a friend not an enemy. It’s torture in the slowest sense. They twist the knife as she reels from the pain. They bash her and batter her until she can take no more.

Leave her alone I say, she is one of us and needs our love. Like all of us she is venerable and fallible. She needs lifting not loathing. She needs support and care and kindness from the heart. We never know when we might need it so we should give when we can, not gloat as others suffer.

As humans we are built for love and compassion. We are built to care and to love and to give. Our design is to support and encourage, to be kindred and kind. Our hearts are for caring and for generosity when it’s required. Our power is our warmth and our spirit is our gift. Our joy is our destiny and we should give it when we can. When we glow in our heart we can glow together. When our fires are alight we can share them with others. When we open our arms and hold onto the broken it builds our peace and it nurtures our soul. It grows us inside and helps us stand tall. It makes us proud that today we walked a higher path. Today we walked the higher road. Today we stuck our head above the parapet and lobbied, love not war.

As people we are here to comfort and to cosset in times of need. We are made to connect and we are made for a reason – to love our fellow humans and to lift then when they are down.

Enough is enough! Britney needs our love not our loathing. She is on our team and we should treat her as so.
